#HearingFactFriday: 1 out of every 8 Americans has noise-induced hearing loss

This past February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) devoted a monthly Vitalsigns™ issue to the topic of noise-induced hearing loss. Why? Because hearing loss is a huge and growing health issue — and because exposure to loud noise is the leading cause.

But also because noise-induced hearing loss is preventable. While not everyone can or wants to avoid situations where noise is excessive — such as at work, going to concerts or events, or using certain tools and equipment — we can all choose to wear earplugs, turn the volume down, or take other steps to protect our hearing and minimize hearing damage.
