#HearingFactFriday: Protect your hearing from fireworks

What’s more iconic for Fourth of July than colorful, sparkly fireworks? Nothing. And yet, the same beautiful blasts of color we like to watch for an hour or more this weekend can also cause irreparable damage to our ears.

A sound at 85dB can result in hearing loss, and fireworks can be as loud as 150dB! According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), permissible noise exposure limits for sounds at 115dB are 15 minutes per day. That means that if you’re watching fireworks without hearing protection, you could be hurting your hearing.

Remember to protect your hearing this Fourth of July and listen carefully by using hearing protection. Maybe you can even buy some red and blue ear plugs for the whole family so you can listen carefully in patriotic style!
