#HearingFactFriday: Hearing loss is undertreated

It’s simply a fact of life: the older we get, the more likely we are to have hearing loss. Research shows that one out of three people older than 60, two out of three people over 70, and four out of five people 85+ have hearing loss.

Research also shows that untreated hearing loss is associated with a host of undesirable issues, perhaps worst of which is accelerated cognitive decline and incident dementia.

But… the research isn’t all gloom, as it concludes that treating hearing loss can help delay, mitigate or reduce the risk of many quality-of-life issues, including cognitive decline associated with hearing loss.

So then why do more than three quarters of adults let their hearing loss go untreated? That’s a question research hasn’t figured out the answer for…yet.
